Apprenticeship or study: beyond pride and prejudice, charting the right course to a successful future

While the number of first-year students is rising steadily, the number of skilled tradespeople being trained is falling ever more drastically. What are the reasons for this? Is it the seemingly poor image of apprenticeships from a social point of view, does the prejudiced awareness of master craftsman qualifications begin at school and why does a "successful, secure future" only seem to be achievable with an academic title?
