Psychological stress in parenthood: striving for an ideal in an imperfect world

Parenthood means a permanent ambivalence between two extremes. It is exhausting and wonderful at the same time. Worry and sleep deprivation, pressure and enormous expectations - both within the family and from a societal perspective - become a constant companion. As wonderful as "being a parent" is, intensive parenting and care in the most diverse life circumstances can lead to excessive demands. The ideal of open parenting that is interested in a child's life and focuses on the child's wishes and interests while at the same time meeting the needs of parents and their working and social lives would be desirable. But we honestly ask ourselves: how do you manage this balancing act? ORF presenter Mari Lang discusses this with Wibke Derboven (research assistant and author at the University of Hamburg), Mareice Kaiser (author & journalist), Ana Wetherall-Grujic (author), Clemens Doppler (professional athlete & entrepreneur), Basti von den 2 Papas (creator) and Markus Breitenecker (CEO ProSiebenSat.1 PULS 4).
